About ISCA - International Sport and Culture Association
The International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) is a non-governmental and not-for-profit umbrella association open to organisations working within the field of recreational sport and physical activity. Established in 1995, ISCA now has 260 member organisations from 89 countries on six continents. ISCA’s tagline is Moving People. This means we empower physical activity stakeholders, starting with our members, to get more people active. ISCA is governed by an executive committee of nine elected members and is steered by continental chairs and committees. Our secretariat is based in Copenhagen. For over 25 years we have created opportunities for our members and partners in the grassroots sport and physical activity sector to work together, gain valuable experience and get their voices heard among decision makers. We aim to inspire our network to develop as organisations and – ultimately – to motivate more individuals and communities to be active. We share ideas across borders and cultures through international projects, events and advocacy. And we have invented new concepts, tools and campaigns that capture how the sector is evolving. All with the aim of promoting and strengthening our network’s efforts to increase citizens’ participation in recreational sport and physical activity. We empower physical activity stakeholders, starting with ISCA members, to get more people moving. We do this by helping our members build their capacities to deliver solutions, campaigns and advocacy wherever they are aiming to make an impact – locally, nationally and even internationally.
What ISCA - International Sport and Culture Association is doing
ISCA has in 2015 taken an important step to scale tested solutions from the sport and physical activity sector to the benefit of both refugees and society. Thanks to support from the European Union, ISCA united these solutions with many project partners from different countries and developed tools that are now available for free to all organisations /Institutions that are working in the IRTS Field. Our partners and stakeholders are now collaborating in the Integration of Refugees Through Sport (IRTS) Networking Platform. The platform aims to realise our strength in numbers by offering in-person and online opportunities to meet, learn, gain recognition for our initiatives, and connect with high profile humanitarian organisations. Integration of Refugees Through Sport
ISCA is currently levraging the IRTS platform to engage the more than 100 IRTS partners in exchanges on what is happening and what more can be done to support Ukrainian refugees through sport (two webinars so far). We have additionally worked with partners to raise funds for the organisations in the neighboring countries, and their important work, and lobbied towards the EU institutions to leverage more support to these urgent needs.
